Campbell announces pair of recruits to Western Mustangs men's basketball program

by Andy Watson - Mustangs Athletics

LONDON, Ont. - Western Mustangs men's basketball head coach Bradley Campbell is pleased to announce guard Andrew Vincent (Timmins, Ont.) and forward Luke Braund (Vancouver, B.C.) have committed to the Western Mustangs men's basketball program for the 2010-11 season.

Players who commit to Mustangs teams will be eligible to play at Western provided they are academically admissible to The University of Western Ontario and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Application Centre in Guelph, Ont.

Vincent, a 6-0 combination guard from the Timmins High and Vocational School Blues, led his squad to three straight AA OFSAA Championships out of the NEOAA region.

"He can score and set up his teammates," Campbell said. "Andrew is a good athlete who can defend and play both guard spots. He also has a high basketball IQ."

This weekend, Vincent and his high school teammates from Timmins finished fourth at OFSAA Double-A provincials, making the Final 4 for the second straight year. Vincent had a 27-point effort in a 68-57 win over the St. Francis Phoenix. The Blues lost 69-64 to St. Thomas Aquinas in the semifinal, with 18 points coming from a well-defended Vincent.

Braund is a 6-6 transfer from Trinity Western and was considered one of the top high school players graduating from the province of British Columbia in 2008-2009.

A member of his St. Georges High School provincial championship squad in 2009, he red-shirted at Trinity Western, making him immediately eligible to compete at Western in September, 2010.

"Luke is a versatile forward who can score inside and also shoot the ball," Campbell said.
"We are very excited both Andrew and Luke will be joining our program."
