Western 85, Queen's 72
The Mustang's took on Queen's University yesterday in what Coach Brad Campbell said was going to be a challenge for the players. With that said Western defeated Queen's 85-72.

Wedemire (Sarnia, Ont.) was a perfect 14/14 at the charity stripe and finished with 24 points as the Western Mustangs won their second straight game 85-72 over the Queen's Gaels in front of over 200 fans on Nov. 21 at Alumni Hall.
In a game featuring five lead changes and five ties, Western blew it open with their starters in the second half, outscoring Queen's 26-14 in the third quarter.
Wedemire added eight rebounds and four assists, while Ryan Barbeau (Belleville, Ont.) had 24 points, nine assists and two boards.
"Andy's successful at the line," Barbeau said. "Any time we can get him there often, we know we're going to win games."
Garrett Olexiuk (Burlington, Ont.) added 12 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
"It's big for us to go 4-2," Barbeau said. "Now we're in a position to win two more, especially coming off two losses, it's really important."
Senior forward Mitch Leger (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaels with 20 points and 13 rebounds along with three blocks and a steal. But he was 8/22 shooting as the Gaels shot under 40% in the second half.
But Queen's clawed close in the second quarter, outscoring Western 21-17. They trailed by just one, 41-40, at the half.
"We started to give them open looks," Barbeau reflected. "But we tightened up at contested their looks. We made the shots difficult."
Barbeau hit a clutch trey in the third quarter following up on another from Marcus Barnett (Hampton, Va.), who finished with nine points, to blow the game open.
It capped a 12-0 Western run, starting in the dying seconds of the first half.
While the Gaels' depth was excellent - outscoring Western 36-9 in bench points - they shot the ball poorly including five misses on their last seven shots from the field.
Western also made Queen's pay for sloppy play, notching 26 points off turnovers, including 11 in the third quarter.
The Mustangs now prepare for a pair of road games to close the 2009-10 portion of the schedule in Toronto - Nov. 27 at Ryerson at 8 p.m. at Kerr Gymasium and Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. against the Varsity Blues at the University of Toronto.
"They are two high-scoring teams and they'll bring it for 40 minutes," Barbeau said. "We'll have to be ready."

Western 105, RMC 57
On Friday night the mustangs defeated RMC 105-57. "We definitely shot the ball well tonight. Our bench also played well. Tomorrow's game vs Queen's is a big challenge for us" Brad Campbell from Friday night.

Mustangs down Paladins 105-57

LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs got into triple-digit scoring with an easy 105-57 win over the RMC Paladins in men's basketball action at Alumni Hall Nov. 20.
Freshman guard Zachary Angus (Burlington, Ont.) hit back-to-back threes in the fourth quarter before David Harder (Denmark) put the Mustangs over the century mark, pulling down a rebound and rolling in a layup with a couple of minutes left in the fourth.
"It's pretty exciting to get this opportunity," Angus said of his season-high 21 minutes of playing time. "We work really hard so to get this chance is great."
The Mustangs were working on new defensive schemes - in particular a high-tempo 3-2 zone defence - which Angus said was hard work.
"It's always nice to be able to work in something new," he said. "I liked the zone but it didn't work too well... it was something new for us. It forces you to talk a lot more. The guys down low really have to communicate well."
Western's bench saw most of the floor time in the game with the starts only seeing the beginnings of the second, third and fourth quarters. The bench outscored RMC's subs 53-12.
With the win, Western improves to 3-2 and hosts Queen's (2-3) at 3 p.m. on Nov. 21 at Alumni Hall. Queen's upset Windsor 73-64 on Nov. 20. RMC falls to 0-5 and will travel to play the 3-2 Windsor Lancers Nov. 21.
Meanwhile, Western's women, which won over RMC by forfeit, are at 4-1 and host Queen's (3-2) at 1 p.m. on Nov. 21 at Alumni Hall.
In the men's game, Angus led the Mustangs with 18 points and five assists. Rookie Paladins guard Justin Hill (Halifax, N.S.) led RMC with 19 points including a pair of threes.
But the Paladins' 18 turnovers were costly.
Starting forward Garrett Olexiuk (Burlington, Ont.) also had 14 points, six assists and three boards. Six Mustangs were in double-digit scoring including Angus, Olexiuk, Brett Lawrence(Welland, Ont.) with 13 points, and Harder, Andy Wedemire (Sarnia, Ont.) and Marcus Barnett(Hampton, Va.) with 10 points each.
Western opend up with a 17-4 lead thanks to threes from Barnett (Hampton, Va.), Ryan Barbeau(Belleville, Ont.) and the unlikeliest of three-point contributors Olexiuk.
The Mustangs led 29-10 at the quarter break.
In the second quarter, Western's bench came on to support and performed admirably - outscoring the RMC bench 17-3 - with every player seeing the floor for at least four minutes in the half.
Western led 57-25 and held a 30-6 margin from beyond the arc shooting 10/19.
