On Monday Sept 28 the Mustangs played in a controlled scrimmage vs the Guelph Phoenix a men's league team filled with former OUA star players. The Guelph roster included Western Alum Andy Kwiatkowski (CIS player of the year in 2002 and former National team member) as well as Kyle Julius (Guelph), Rhadi Knapp (Guelph), Scott Sealey (Lakehead) , Koven Paddachee (Guelph) , Graham Jarmen (Waterloo) Dan Eves (York)Mike King (Green-Bay Wisconsin). The Phoenix punished the Mustangs early and often inside and showed the Mustangs the valued of strength and experience. The teams played 4 10 mins quarters.
"This scrimmage was great for us. It showed our guys the things we need to work on and what we need to do to be more competitive this season. Guelph made us deal with several match-ups problems and played physical and disciplined. It's not everyday you get to play a team of that calibre." said Coach Campbell
The Mustangs were without F Andy Wedemire, G Jason Milliquet, F Greg Edlesward, F Josh Windsor and F Josh Robertson all due to injury.
