Western sports, recreation and athletics best in Canada says Globe, Maclean's

LONDON, Ont. - The Department of Sports and Recreation Services at Western received positive third-party recognition of the value and success of their programs in 2009 over the past two months.In the Globe and Mail’s annual University Report Card in October, Western’s athletics and recreation programs received the only A+ rating in the nation, thanks in part to the opening of the $34-million Western Student Recreation Centre and success of the varsity programs. Market-driven sports men’s hockey, men’s basketball and men's football all reached the CIS Final Four in the 2008-09 varsity season, while 36 of Western's 38 teams finished in the Top 5 in their provincial leagues.
