LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs will get their last exhibition tune-up this weekend against the UQAM Citadins. The Mustangs will host UQAM at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Alumni Hall.
The Mustangs are coming off a successful trip to Montreal for the McGill Redmen Classic tournament. Western went 3-0 there winning games against Queen's, McGill and UPEI. The Mustangs easily handled the Queen's Gaels 102-75 with Andy Wedemire netting 25 points and Quinn Henderson adding 24. Host McGill proved to be a greater challenge with the Mustangs edging the Redmen 72-67. Western then disposed of UPEI 87-69 in their final game of the tournament.
Prior to this tournament the Mustangs were 2-0 against other CIS and college opponents having defeated Memorial 82-59 and Algoma 85-55. With those wins Western is a perfect 5-0 in the pre-season, their only blemish being a non-conference defeat in August against the powerhouse Kentucky Wildcats.
The Mustangs will be on the road to start the regular season heading to Laurentian on Nov. 5 and then to York on Nov. 6. They will then begin a four game homestand playing Ryerson at on Nov. 12 and Toronto on Nov. 13. Both games will tip-off at 8 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
