LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs could not overcome the strong shooting of the Windsor Lancers in the second and fell 87-72 Jan. 5 at Alumni Hall.


Andy Wedemire led the Mustangs attack with 20 points, Ryan Barbeau had 14 points with eight assists and Peter Scholtes had 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench

The Mustangs could not answer the hot shooting of Windsor's Isaac Kuon who went 8-for-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from three point range for 25 points. The Lancers as a team show 56% from the field in the second half.

With the win the Lancers secure their hold on first place in the OUA West with their 8-1 record. The Mustangs slip to 5-4 on the season ending their three-game winning streak.
The Mustangs got off to a good start, rotating well on defence to have a slim three-point lead 20-17 after the first quarter.
Windsor was all over the glass in the second quarter rebounding and outscored the Mustangs 22-14 in the frame. It was a five point lead for the Lancers at half 39-34. For the game the Lancers dominated the board grabbing 11 offensive boards and outrebounding the Mustangs 30-23.
In the second half the Lancers broke down Western's zone with some hot shooting as four Lancers finished with 3 three-pointers each. In total, the Lancers shot 44% from long range, hitting 12 shots from deep.
Western could not mount any sort of a run and played even with the Lancers in the third but entered the fourth quarter down 61-53.
With the Lancers continuing their strong shooting performance the benches were emptied and Windsor extended their lead as the game finished 87-72.
